LT3518 Short-Circuit

Hello,

i build an LED Driver based on LT3518 and found out that short circuit leads to large input currents. The large input currents exists as long as the short exists. 

The schematic is quite equal to the example "Boost 300mA LED Driver with LED Open Protection", but i don't use the PWM input and bridged it to VREF. The dimming is done by an external voltage on the CTRL pin. 

There are no special information regarding the short circuit protection of the device at the datasheet, is there any to consider or must i build a short circuit protection with an external circuit ?

    Hello Martin,

    The LT3518 is not designed for short-circuit protection.

    More recent ICs such as the LT3922, LT3795, LT3762, LT3932, LT8391A and other LED drivers now have the short-circuit protection which you are looking for.
