LTC4446 Components

Hi,

It is not apparent from the LTC4446's data sheet how components were chosen for the "Fast Turn-On/Turn-Off DC Switch". While the simulation is helpful, I am uncertain how to determine the 0.1 (uH) inductive and 0.7 (ohm) resistive load limit. How do I determine components that will allow me to apply higher loads?

In general it is not clear how the "Fast Turn-On/Turn-Off DC Switch" circuit works. If someone could provide resources for me to read about this, it would be great. Thanks!

Best regards

  • The Fast Turn-On/Turn-Off DC Switch uses the bottom portion of the LTC4446 to create a charge pump necessary for 100% duty cycle operation (top switch on forever). The newer LTC7000 series (LTC7000/7000-1/7003/7004) includes a charge pump (no external components necessary). Regarding choosing components for different loads, as you said, LTSpice can help with evaluating MOSFET (RDSon, voltage rating) and diode from ground to TS (necessary with an inductive load).
