The MAX17201GEVKIT does not connect to the GUI without a battery, is this normal?
Yes this is normal behaviour as the MAX17201 IC is powered by the connected battery. The USB adapter does not send power over the RJ11 cable, so the only way for the MAX17201 IC to be powered and operate correctly is with a battery connected to the board.
