No. The Alert pin of MAX1762x family cannot be reset if the fault condition is still present. Users have to remove the fault condition in order to reset the Alert pin. Here is a typical example.
The users set the SOC upper limit is 80% ( SAlrtTh register) to receive an alert when the the battery is charged up to 80%. When the SOC reaches 80%, the Alert pin is triggered, then the users try to clear Smx bit in Status register to reset the Alert pin in order to detect other alerts that might occur. But clearing the Smx bit does not reset the Alert pin because the Smx bit is immediately set to 1 after clearing (Because the alert condition is still there, SOC>80%). In this case, the alert threshold should be changed to the new value which the Smx bit is not triggered again.
Please note that this process also applies to other alert types in the IC.
