对于低边检流，设计简单而且测量端的输入共模电压为0，但是检流电阻会将电池的负端和系统的GND隔开。对于有些应用不建议将GND隔开，这时就需要高边检流。另外，对于一些充电器设计时已经带有了高边的检流电阻，用户不希望再增加一个低边检流的电阻，这个时候通常希望采用高边检流。对于高边检流，输入的共模电压为电池电压，并且高边检流还可以检测出系统的短路状态。
