The current sense resistor value should be selected based on the maximum current and the battery capacity. A higher resistance improves current sense accuracy, but it must be low enough to not saturate the ADC at peak currents. Use these formulas to determine the maximum value:
- RSENSE < 327.675mVh / Capacity
- RSENSE < 51.1984mV / Max_Current
Once the maximum resistance is determined, choose a standard value near half of the maximum. This will allow for unexpected peak currents while still retaining high precision.
Because the current and capacity registers have units of uV and uVh, there is no need to program the RSENSE value into the fuel gauge. The RSense register may be used to store the resistor value for record-keeping purposes.
