The MAX17201/MAX17205/MAX17211/MAX17215 can be used without using the SHA-256 function. The SHA-256 calculates a correct answer for a challenge input, and is an independent function from fuel gauging. It is not necessary to access the SHA256 function for the MAX17201 to function. The MAX17201 will function whether it gives a correct response or not. It is up to the system to take appropriate action if an incorrect response is given.
