I am searching for a solution for a 16S measurement module with active balancing. Since the simplicity of using the LT8584, I would like to choose a chip with support for it.
Our requirements are:
Minimum cell count: 8 cells LiFePO4
Maximum cell count: 16 cells
ASIL D capability without extra MCU per module
Active balancing per cell
3mV accuracy or better, since we work with LiFePO4
At least 1000V system capability
Production warranty of like 10 years
After searching for a few days, I still cannot make a strong decision. Our candidates:
| name | asil | balancing |
| LTC6813 | D? | LT8584 |
| ADBMS6843 | D | No data made public |
| ADBMS6837 | D | No data made public |
| ADBMS1816 | No data made public | 1818 has LTC8584 support? |
The LTC6813 has my preference, but seems to be outdated. Since this is a new design to continue to use in the future, I do not feel comfortable choosing this chip while it may get discontinued within 2 years or so.
The ADBMS1816 seems to be the successor, but I get a huge question mark around the ASIL capabilities.
Both the 6843 and 6837 seem to be the flagships, but we need to dive into the NDA trajectory to see if they are what we want. The 6843 is really interesting with the impedance measurement capabilities.
Can someone suggest if the LTC6813 complies with our needs? Or if it is highly recommended to choose one of the other chips. And not less important, if the LT8584 circuit will pass the ASIL D with ease.
I hope to hear from you.
Kind regards,
Robert Jan
