Can someone help with ModelGauge m5 EZ Characterization for LiFePO4 (4S 6000mAh)

Category: Software
Product Number: MAX17263
Software Version: 1.0.34

I’m working on a power‑management system that uses the ModelGauge m5 EZ algorithm, and I need help understanding how to properly characterize and configure the fuel gauge for a LiFePO₄ 4‑cell battery pack.

  • Chemistry: LiFePO₄
  • Configuration: 4S
  • Capacity: 6000 mAh (with 100 mA charge‑termination current)
  • Nominal Voltage: 12.8 V (3.2 V per cell)

I can connect the battery to the evaluation kit and read data, but the software does not allow me to set a 1 mΩ sense resistor, which is required in my design.

The Software Implementation Guide lists several parameters that need to be written during configuration, but does not clearly explain which ones are essential or how they should be calculated.

  1. What are the minimum parameters that need to be configured initially for the ModelGauge m5 EZ algorithm?
  2. Does the fuel gauge eventually learn and update internal parameters automatically after several charge/discharge cycles, or must everything be configured manually?
  3. Are there any recommended initialization files, example configurations, or reference setups available specifically for LiFePO₄ 4‑cell battery packs?
