I have a couple of problems with our battery pack regarding the configurations and holding the configuration. In our battery pack, I have MAX17263 as well as an independent charger. This pack communicates with the main device over pogo pins. So, the chip is always powered by the battery cell, unless the fuse circuit of the cell cuts the power due to low voltage or a short circuit.
Here are my issues:
I understand the device does not hold register values after a power reset. But the problem is I can not even reset the chip. I see sometimes the chip hangs. For example, pressing the button does not show the LED bar. Sometimes the LED bar works, but reading the capacity by I2C does not work. In the 3rd case, I press the button to show the level, but it never turns off after the timeout. If I charge the pack for a few minutes, then the always-on LED bar likely goes away.
In all cases, a power reboot would fix it. But the problem is that this fuel gauge is inside the sealed battery pack. We are not supposed to ask a customer to short-circuit the battery pack to reset the internal fuse and then reprogram it after the power recovery.
I would like to know what the ways are to reset the chip without resetting its power supply. Or how to recover the chip from a bad state.
Looking forward to hearing from you.
Amir
