I'm looking at using the LTC2959 in a 7 to 14 (TBD) series-cell NiMH battery pack. The pack may be sitting on the shelf for a month without use or charge, and I don't want the fuel gauge to report that the battery is still fully charged when in reality due to the NiMH chemistry it will have lost a significant charge in that time. Does the device have any internal compensation for that? If it doesn't, my idea to compensate for it would be to once a day, read the charge register, then get the remaining charge, multiply that number by 0.99 (or whatever reasonable amount for self discharge in a day would be) then update the charge register with the new number. Will the device at least support doing that?
If not, would there be another device that can handle self discharge in a reasonable way? My requirements for a fuel gauge are low power (preferably an order of magnitude less than the self discharge rate) with capability of reading charge, voltage, current, and temperature.
