Fuel gauge ic for primary lithium battery

Category: Hardware
Product Number: MAX17048

Hi, I am currently designing a wireless sensor node that will be powered by either a lithium thionyl chloride or lithium manganese dioxide battery.

I want to add a fuel gauge IC for charge monitoring. I am considering the MAX17048 because of its very low active (23 µA) and sleep (3 µA) current.

According to the datasheet, the MAX17048 is designed for Li-ion batteries.

My question is: Is it possible to use the MAX17048 with lithium thionyl chloride or lithium manganese dioxide batteries, given that their chemistry differs from Li-ion?
