MAX17201 Locked up

Category: Hardware
Product Number: MAX17201

I've been using the MAX17201 on a custom board with a single cell.  After about 6 months of use, a number of boards failed to communicate over I2C bus.  If I remove and re-insert the battery, the MAX17201 becomes operational again.  Seems like the MAX17201 went into shutdown mode and cycling into shutdown mode and a power cycle brought it back up again.  The code configures the MAZ17201 after boot up and then just.reads voltage, current and temperature once every second. Not sure how it gets into this mode even though the I2C bus is continually active.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Thread Notes

  • Hello,

It is hard to say exactly what might be the cause as this is not a normal expected behavior.  Is there any indication the voltage dipped below the shutdown voltage?

If you are only reading its not likely the first two conditions would cause the device to enter shutdown, so the voltage going below the shutdown voltage would be my initial guess.
