Can MAX77789 D+/D- Pins be Left Open if only USB Type-C CC Detection is Required?

Question

I would like to avoid using the D+/D- pins since BC1.2 and proprietary standard support is not required, and the D+/D- pins are already being used for data. I would also like to avoid using a USB Mux as suggested by the datasheet. 
 Is it possible to leave these pins open on the MAX77789? Thank you,
