MAX17260 fuel gauge state-of-charge percentage output

Question

We are using MAX17260 on the custom board. 
 The Charger is connected directly to the battery ( BAT+) on this board and not through MX17260 (VBAT). 
 Our problem is that state-of-charge percentage output ( RepSOC Register (06h)) never goes above 80% . 
 Any way to overcome this with software? 
 
 ( btw, in other boards we MAX17260 , C harging goes through the fuel gauge and the state-of-charge percentage output is ok)
