Q: The MAX16141EVKIT has TVS protectors (D5/D6) on the schematic that are not placed. Are these TVS protection diodes required?
A: The TVS protection diodes are used to suppress battery transients beyond the capabilities of MAX16141. Positive clamping TVS (D5) and negative clamp TVS (D6) are required to meet ISO 7637-2 and ISO 16750-2. Furthermore, a parallel schottky across D6 is also recommended to reduce impedance when D6 TVS is conducting in the forward direction. The anode of the schottky should connect to MAX16141 GND pin.
