Question
We have a requirement to use ADE7878/ADE7868/ADE7858 in single phaseconfiguration with 3 CT Clamps connected to Phase 1, or in a Three Phaseconfiguration. In the former we intend for all voltage pins to be connected toVoltage on Phase 1.
Is this configuration possible and will it compute the correct readings. If Notis there any other component which can be used in this configuration.
Answer
For normal 3 phase there is no issue with howyour diagram shows the setup.
As for the second configuration with 3 different currents being measured butall on the same voltage, if you want to continue to measure power on all 3channels then the voltage has to be connected to VA, VB and VC. It looks likethat is exactly what you are doing, this way “Phase A” will be V1:I1, “Phase B”will be V1:I2 and “Phase C” will be V1:I3. All the measurements will still workproperly in this configuration.
For the application mentioned, the ADE7878A (updated version of ADE7878) is thebest match. The only other recommendation that I can make is the ADE7816 whichis a part with 1 voltage and 6 current measurements that allows more channelsto be measured for the second application. If the same meter needs to be usedfor both then the ADE7878A is the best match.
