Installing the Software for MAXREFDES79 (CONTROL IO LINK TOOL):
1. To begin installation, please make sure all the other versions of Control IO link are deleted and uninstalled. This includes uninstalling the previous Control Tool versions users might have and any of the folders.
2. Next, Open command prompt as Administrator - (this step is very important) and navigate to the CT install file on downloading the latest version of Control tool using the command prompt. Run this file using CMD.
3. During installation, users will have the option to install “For Everyone” or “Just for me”. It is important that the option install for everyone is selected.
4. Once installed, run the software as an administrator and select the correct COM port that MAXREFDES79 is connected to on the PC. Also make sure the power adaptor of MAXREFDES79 is connected and MAXREFDES79 is powered up.
5. After connecting the USB cable and the power adaptor, select the correct PORT that the slave IO link device is connected to (i.e. 1-4). (e.g. Slave IO link reference design examples include: MAXREFDES171 or MAXREFDES174)
6. Next click on the power on and the IO link button on the CONTROL IO link tool GUI.
7. Users can also click on the select device option and import the XML file for the slave IO link device connected to one of the ports of MAXREFDES79 master IO link to import the slave IO link device parameters. If the XML file for the slave IO link device that is connected to MAXREFES79 cannot be parsed, or on clicking the IODD finder, the SSL/TLS tunnel cannot be created, uninstall everything and start the installation process again. These issues are caused by improper installation procedures, uninstalling previous versions of Control tool or not running installation in administrator mode.
8. Debugging Hardware issues:
There are four IO-Link ports and two side-mounted LEDs as shown in Figure 2. The odd number ports are at the top. Power is indicated when the top green LED is on. The lower LED is a red, green and blue (RGB) LED that indicates the communication status as shown in Table 1. Users can inspect these LEDs on MAXREFDES79 casing to debug hardware issues.

| Upper Side-Mounted LED (Green) | |
| Green | Power is connected |
| Off | Power is not connected |
| Lower Side-Mounted LED (RGB) | |
