I tried to update the firmware of my TMCM-1180 / PD42-x-1180 using the Firmware Update tool in the TMCL-IDE, but now the board is unresponsive. How can I solve this and update my firmware?
If the firmware update fails, our modules stay in bootloader mode. If this is the case, you should see that your LEDs are constantly on. In bootloader mode the ID is always 1 (for RS232/RS485 and CAN), the RS232/R485 bitrate is always 115200 and the CAN bitrate is always 1MBit/s. In this mode, the hardware reset procedure listed in the hardware manual will not work.
The first thing to try is simply trying the firmware update tool again. Make sure that you are using the most up to date version of the TMCL-IDE. If this fails again, you should check when your board was manufactured.
If manufactured before 2015, update via USB might not work with 64 bit Windows versions. In this case, use RS232 or CAN to update the firmware.
If manufactured before 2014, the legacy version of TMCL-IDE (V2.x) must be used to update the firmware. Here as well, RS232 or CAN should be used. Select 9600bps in the IDE for RS232 (the legacy bootloader works with 9600bps).

When using the old IDE please click the icon #1 (shown on the screenshot below) go to the tab “connection” to connect with the right COM port and then #2 to choose the right file and to download the Firmware.
