In the MAX15162/MAX15162A design, when the device powers up the MOSFET with a very large load at the output, the duty cycles of the pulsating startup current are limited to initial values to ensure the power dissipation is not overheating the device. However, for the heavy load application, if there is no soft-start to limit system’s inrush current, it may cause failed power-up in 250ms watchdog timeout, even after three time auto-retries. In this case, the device (MAX15162A or MAX15162) will latch off. To make the system power up successfully, customer will need to consider the start-up control (soft-start, power on sequencing) for heavy-load system.
