N/C pins on MAX38888

Question

Pins 2 and 13 are designated as "no connect." Must they be unconnected, or could pin 2 be connected to adjacent pin 1 (SYS) and pin 13 be connected to adjacent pin 12 (LX) to allow for a wider trace / fill on PCB to handle currents?
