Thanks you for your interest on the AD790, may I know what your specific application will be for this part?
The 510ohms resistor is necessary when using dual supplies (separate VLOGIC and +Vs) just like in the application circuits above. The 510ohm limits the input current to the LATCH pin during powerup.
On the second figure (autozerod comparator...), pin 8(VLOGIC) should have been directly to 5V. Only the LATCH pin needs a pull up to the VLOGIC voltage.
