MAX1978EVKIT needs to be connected to the parallel port of a Windows 95, Windows 98, or Windows 2000 computer. However, all of our computers are running Windows 10 and there are no parallel ports. How do we use it?

The parallel port on MAX1978 evaluation board is used to control the DAC on the evkit to adjust the temperature set point. The evaluation board also provides means of adjustment via the potentiometer. Therefore, instead of using the DAC to configure the voltage, we can use the potentiometer on the evaluation board to adjust the temperature set point. The difference between using the DAC and potentiometer is that the DAC is controlled via software, while the potentiometer needs to be manually adjusted. However, either approach does not affect the performance of the MAX1978. Currently, our customers are using the potentiometer rather than the DAC on the board.
