The value for Rs is should be set by the application. The ADPD2212 has an internal current gain of 24x, and it has an input referred noise floor of ~100fA. Rs should be set such that the brightest signal being measured does not saturate the ADC, and such that the noise floor is dictated by the ADPD2212 and not by the ADC resolution.
