Q:
Can you provide an example test process for testing the x_DELTANG_xxx function in the ADIS16480?
A:
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
SUMMARY
The EVAL-ADIS, IMU Evaluation Software and a simple 180 degree turn provide a simple method for testing the delta angle function inside of the ADIS16480.
TEST SETUP
- Attach an ADIS16480AMLZ to the EVAL-ADIS, using the steps in the follow user guide:
ADIS1648x Wiki Guide - Physical Setup Instructions - Install the latest version of the IMU Evaluation Software, using the steps in the following User Guide
IMU Evaluation Software Setup Wiki Guide
TEST PROCEDURE
- Plug the EVAL-ADIS (with the ADIS16480AMLZ installed on it) into the PC-USB port
- Once both LEDs illuminate, start the IMU Evaluation Software program
- Upon start-up, select Device = ADIS16488 (not the ADIS16480)
- Go into the Register Access menu and select the NULL_CFG register
- Change the NULL_CFG value to 0x070A (this extends the sample time for the gyroscope null to >26 seconds)
- Un-plug the EVAL-ADIS, wait 2-3 seconds, then plug it back into the PC-USB port. Try to make this as quick as possible and keep the EVAL-ADIS still during the first 30 seconds.
- Using the Tools >> USB menu in the IMU Evaluation Software, re-connect the EVAL-ADIS to the PC:
- Close the USB menu and go back into the Main Menu, then click on Read to observe the gyroscopes.
- Stop on Stop and then go into the Data Capture Menu.
- In the Data Capture menu, select the z-axis gyroscopes and delta-angle registers, then select 50000 samples, unscaled data and if needed, a unique file name for data capture:
- Press the Start button and rotate the device 180 degrees, using some sort of convenient edge reference. In this case, I used the edge of my laptop and just lined it up with an edge of the EVAL-ADIS in both orientations (0 and 180 degrees).
- Convert the Z_DELTANG_xxx data into degrees and perform a running summation, the plot the results. Please see the attached Excel file for this example, which produced the following chart
We hope that helps!
