Q
How is this accelerometer unique for use as a motion switch?
A
The ADXL362 has the unique capability to provide a status signal on a pin: that
is, a pin that goes high when the part is moving and low when it is stationary.
This pin can be tied to the gate of a switch that controls power to downstream
circuitry. So when we want the system to be off, we can cut power to it
completely, and the only thing that consumes any power is the microcontroller –
at 270 nA. This translates to huge power savings in systems that spend much of
their time in the off position, waiting for a motion trigger to turn them on.
