The leads-on detection circuit in the MAX30003 has two settings: either enabled or disabled. This detection circuit is a comparator circuit that checks if the impedance between ECGP and ECGN is less than 20 MOhms. It works best with wet electrodes, while using with dry electrodes can cause false readings.
If the MAX30003's built-in leads-on detection circuit does not achieve the required consistency for the application (such as in some dry electrodes applications), a suggested workaround is to implement a very low power accelerometer that turns on the system as soon as it detects any movement.
