Q19209C // Magnetic field strength and polarity

Thread Summary

The user inquires if the ADAF1080-3EBZ can measure magnetic field strength and polarity, outputting an analog signal for PLC processing. The support engineer recommends the EVAL-ADAF1080SDZ evaluation kit, which can provide an analog output reflecting the magnet's polarity and field strength. The user will need to establish the relationship between the field strength and the magnet's position relative to the sensor.

Dear,

Customers need a board to measure the magnetic field strength of the magnet and the polarity of the magnet, then send out an analog signal, they will read that analog signal with PLC.

Customer is interesting in ADAF1080-3EBZ and would like to know if this part meets their expectation.

Can this product read the magnetic field value of the magnet and the polarity of the magnet and output analog signals for PLC processing?

Do customers need to buy any additional equipment?

Please advise.

Please let me know if you need additional information and as always thank you in advance for your prompt response and looking forward to your reply soon.

  • Hello Suphachai.

Thank you for reaching out relating to the ADAF1080. For this application I would recommend they use the EVAL-ADAF1080SDZ single sensor evaluation kit for the ADAF1080. This will allow them to directly measure an analog output of the ADAF1080 sensor and determine both the polarity and field strength at the sensor location from the permanent magnet.

I assume the magnet is a dipole permanent magnet and the system is configured according to the sketch below. Based on this assumption the user would see either an increasing or decreasing voltage on the output based on the polarity of the magnet, the magnetic field strength and the state of the FLIP_DRV pin according to the datasheet.

The customer will need to determine the relationship between measured field strength and magnet location relative to the sensor but I believe it is a well suited sensor for this application.

    Regards,

    Luke
