Has it lost it register or has the battery become depleted? Is there any other reason why this would occur? is there any way to correct this?

Can you read other registers?
1)Using first the addresses of DS1922T.
2) If you cant reach them with those, try to use the addresses of DS2422 registers.
If both are not functioning, I would not exclude the battery is weak and giving comm errors.
