ADXL1001BCPZ fails when Z force is about 200g

Category: Hardware
Product Number: ADXL1001BCPZ
Software Version: N/A

I am using an ADXL1001 inside a propeller hub to measure forces along rotational axis. The ADXL1001 is specified to handle forces up to 100g along the X-axis. Inside the hub it is also subject to centripetal forces of about 200g along the Z-axis. The sensor was working properly until it experienced the 200g force along the Z-axis and then it seems to have jammed. The neutral value on my ADC pin is 2048 (maximum 4095) and I am now just getting a low signal of about 1000. It may be that this sensor is unsuitable for a situation with a high Z-axis force. Is there any sensor capable of withstanding 200+ on Z-axis, and measuring up to 100g on the X-axis?

Hi

Thank you for your post. In order to find the MEMS sensor with the specific range you can check this link and filter it based on your desired range. Attached figure shows a sample case for the accelerometer with the range of higher than 200g.

Regards,

Mohammad

  • Thanks - I was hoping to avoid the SPI interface, but it seems that is the only option for g-forces in that range.
