In the status register 0x04, I read the data when the DATA_RDY bit is high. 

OK, thanks for sharing. 

I don't have the tolerance for the clock, readily available, but this sounds pretty high. 

Just a few more questions: 

1. What is the SCLK rate, for the SPI?
2. How often does your processor read and check the 0x04 address, for indication of new data? 
3. After completing a data acquisition cycle, is there any delay, prior to resuming the polling process? 
4. Are there any signs of repeating data sets, from the data logs?
