Thank you, for posting your question in this forum. Are you using an EVAL-ADXL356 board, in this setup?

Here are some ideas for troubleshooting the ADXL356 side of your setup:  

1. Use a digital multimeter to probe all of the supply levels, on the ADXL356's pins
2. Probe the Xout, Yout and Zout to see if the voltage is ~1/2 of the supply level.
3. Probe the Xout, Yout and Zout, while moving the orientation around, with respect to gravity, to see if the voltages respond in a reasonable way.
