Attenuation lo leakage

I've been experiencing an issue on adrv9009 with zcu102.

The problem involves LO leakage when adjusting the TX attenuation.

I'm operating at an LO frequency of 900 MHz. Initially, with a 10 dB attenuation setting, the LO leakage measured -74 dBm. After increasing the attenuation to 27 dB and recalibrating, the LO leakage increased to -65 dBm.

I've attached images showing the issue. Could you please help me understand why this is happening and how to address it?

This issue was happening on 2400MHz as well.

I wanted to ask if you can show me the scheme where the attenuation placed before the mixer or after?

10dB attenuation => lo leakage on 900MHz = -74dBm

27dB attenuation 900MHz lo leakage = -65dBm

  • Are you using eval or custom board?

    Can you please check and confirm if TX to ORX is connected in the setup ?

    Are you running the TX LOL tracking cal?

    Initially can you please keep the chip at one particular attenuation level say 10db attenuation and measure the LO leakage. Check the TxLolStatus() and see if iter and update count are incrementing without any ErrorCode? 

    Below is the recommended LO leakage at 0dB attenuation from the datasheet.

    I am working with a ZCU102 + ADRV9009 evaluation board,

    I am connected from Tx1 to ORX1, using a splitter to both the spectrum analyzer and the ORX1 channel.

    After running the Tx LOL tracking calibration, the leakage improves from about –65 dBm to –74 dBm. However, I notice that I need to repeat the calibration every time I change the attenuation.

    I am working with a ZCU102 + ADRV9009 evaluation board, but I haven’t found an option to check the Tx LOL calibration status. Could you please tell me which register or API function can be used to read this status from the UART terminal?

    Also, I would like clarification on the signal chain: is the attenuation applied before the mixer or after the mixer? If possible, could you provide a simple block diagram showing where the attenuation is placed?
