On the ADF7024 when do I need to issue the CMD_CONFIG_DEV command?

I am confused about when I should use the CMD_CONFIG_DEV command on the ADF7024. Can you explain when I need to use this command?

The CMD_CONFIG_DEV commad updates the ADF7024 radio based on the configuration register settings. The CMD_CONFIG_DEV can only be issued from the PHY_OFF state, so  updating the radio settings in the configuration registers  should only be carried out in the PHY_OFF state and followed by a CMD_CONFIG_DEV command.

However note when changing the RADIO_CHANNEL_FREQ registers, these do not require a CMD_CONFIG_DEV command as the ADF7024 reads these registers and updates the RF frequency on transition to PHY_RX or PHY_TX. This facilitates frequency hopping applications.

Also, updating configuration registers related to packet handling settings (prefix PKT_ in the register name)  do not require a CMD_CONFIG_DEV command. These means that these settings can be updated in the PHY_OFF or PHY_ON states.
