About the crystal selection of MAX7044

Thread Summary

The user asked if the MAX7044's internal capacitance of 3pF between XTAL1 and XTAL2 pins means external load capacitors are not needed. The final answer confirms the internal capacitance and suggests referring to the MAX7044 datasheet and evaluation kit documentation for crystal selection and external capacitor usage.

Hi,

The datasheet of MAX7044 says "The crystal oscillator in the MAX7044 is designed to present a capacitance of approximately 3pF between the XTAL1 and XTAL2 pins." That means there are an extra 3pF load capacitor internal the chip, right? And it won't prevent me to use external load capacitors, if I use a crystal with larger load capacitor, I need use external load capacitors, right?

Thanks.
