Cannot connect to Adalm-Pluto when running the HB100 script

Does the Pluto appear as a USB drive on your Raspberry Pi desktop?  If not, you may have a bad USB cable.  If it does appear on your desktop, then open up IIO Oscilloscope (its already installed for Kuiper Linux), connect to Pluto, and share a screen grab of the AD9361 tab.  That may give some insight into the issue.

Thank you for the reply. It does not appear on my desktop. I have tried another cable without any change. 

If I plug it into my windows PC using those cables, it comes up as a drive, so the cables seem OK. I have also tried using different ports on the RPi just in case, without any change. Keyboard and mouse are working fine.

Whilst trying this and rebooting a number of times, I saw a message I hadn't noticed before, with the text "usb 1-1-portX: Cannot enable. Maybe the usb cable is bad?", with the X being either port2 or port3 depending on which of the USB2 ports I used for the Pluto. FYI this is a freshly imaged RPi, and the Pluto is powering up, so it just seems the data connection to it is faulty.

I have some further information. I looked into which FW the Pluto was running, it was 0.35. Following the guidance here (https://wiki.analog.com/resources/eval/user-guides/circuits-from-the-lab/cn0566/overview_setup), which linked to here (https://wiki.analog.com/university/tools/pluto/users/firmware), I updated to 0.39 and tried again. Unfortunately, the same issue.

A bit confusingly, the guidance then tells you to use a particular pluto.frm file, which seems to downgrade it to 0.34. I realise this page is in draft, but I am unclear on whether that guidance is accurate. Either way, I get the same USB message on RPi boot, and no icon on my desktop.

I did also try with my own RPi using the same SD card. I received the same error, so it isn't that specific RPi that is faulty, the issue must either be with the Pluto or the Linux install.

Jon.Kraft I'm 99% sure everything we needed is rolled into the latest Pluto firmware, ( github.com/.../v0.39 ) correct? If so I'll edit the wiki page to that effect.

Ok, so if Pluto works on your PC, that means Pluto is good.  And if it doesn't show up on two Raspberry Pi's (with the same SD card) then it seems like the Rasp Pi is not the problem.  So it must be an issue with your SD card.  Try creating a new SD card, and follow the instructions very closely here:

Watch the video that is there, and do not skip any of the steps for creating the SD card.

Thank you for your reply. That is the video I used last time, athough I used Rufus to write the image as that is my normal imaging software.

This time I used the same software (RPi Imager). I also performed MD5 hash confirmations on both the zip and extracted img files to confirm nothing untoward had happened. Sadly nothing has changed, even after running the setup scripts. I feel like I have troubleshot every bit of the system that could be wrong, so am a bit stumped.

OK, success. As a last resort I tried a different USB cable, and this time it worked. To be clear, the other cables worked with Windows so were clearly functional, but perhaps the RPi/Linux has stricter or more finicky preferences in some aspect. I then still had issues running the script, but once I terminaled into the Pluto and configured the AD9361 settings it worked. Thank goodness.
