AD9364 does not transmit any signal

Product Number: ADRV9364

Hi,

I am using the ADRV9364-Z7020 board with the transceiver configured in CMOS mode, single data rate, dual port, half duplex. In TDD mode, I see that the AD9364 correctly moves into TX state, but no signal is produced from the RF ports, although data ports and TX_FRAME are driven by the Zynq.

What have I missed?

  • Can you check using internal BIST that whether you are able to transmit the data in TX state? Refer to the below link for BIST config:

  • Thank you for your prompt response. I have tried using the BIST but unfortunately I cannot get any signal from the AD9364. The configuration parameters are pretty much the same as the no-OS reference design. Any other suggestion?

  • Are you able to initialize the chip successfully in CMOS mode? If you change to LVDS mode, is it working?

    swap_ports_enable should be 0 (default value) in case of ad9364 device.

  • I set swap_ports_enable to 0, as in the code snippet I shared in the previous message. Then I tried both CMOS and LVDS mode, but using the BIST I still cannot get any signal. I believe there is no issue in the initialization since the ad9361_init() function returns successfully and the ENSM moves in TX state. It seems like something is powered down... any other suggestion?

  • Can you try initializing in FDD mode and then check with internal BIST, if you are able to see the data at the TX output?

    I tried also in FDD mode but the problem still persists. When I read back the register you suggested, I see that TX channels are enabled.

  • It is strange that you are not seeing any data at the TX output in FDD and LVDS mode with internal BIST. Are you able to see LO leakage at the TX output? If there is no LO leakage at the output, then the TX path is not enabled.  Are you using ADRV1CRR-BOB  board? Are you giving 5V ,2A power supply to  it? Can you check if the power supply to the balun is good?

    Can you try with a different eval board?
