Unable to ping Ethernet IP address AD9081/AD9082 Virtex UltraScale+ VCU118

Hello, I am trying to program UltraScale+ VCU118 Evaluation Kit with AD9081/1d9082 .

I downloaded the prebuilt image and bit file from the link below and programmed the VCU118 board with.

  • The board successfully programed by Xilinx SDK 2019.1 xsdb with prebuilt bit file and Linux image strip file m=8, L=4.

  • The Kernel boot showed some failure (Please see the attached Kernel boot log for the full text):
    • xilinx_axienet 40c00000.ethernet: Failed to get clock: -2
    • ad9081 spi0.0: Failed to initialize: -21
    • ad9081: probe of spi0.0 failed with error -21
    • udhcpc: no lease, failing
    • I was able to login to the buildroot with username: root and pass: analog

  • I connected the ethernet cable directly to my PC. I set the static IP address on the PC and on the Xilinx board but I can’t ping its IP address.

  • I tried  AD9081 and AD9082 with FMC connector on the Ultrascale+ board. In both cases the HMC light on the Analog board is red.

 

  • The Xilinx board VCU118 is new and I am sure no body used it before, Is there any switch or jumper that need to be changed for the ethernet?

 

I would appreciate your guidance and assistance with this matter.

  • Hello Babakki,

    I'd suggest rechecking the connections between the boards, because that might cause the initialization fail of the spi.

    For further support I will move this thread to the Linux community.

  • Hi Stanca, I connected the AD9081 board and Xilinx VCU118 by the FMC connectors same as Quick Start Guide page,

    AD9081 using FMC, VCU118 using FMC+. 
    I connected the PC directly with ethernet cable to the Xilinx board. (no router) 

  • Regarding the errors in your kernel log related to the ad9081

    Can you please check this?

    Regarding the Ethernet issue - try to connect your board to an DHCP enabled network (router/switch)

  • Hi, I checked your link for the board setup. It looks correct. The capacitors C6D/C4D caps are in C5D/C3D position.

    The LEDs on the board:

    IRQB1: OFF

    IRQB0: ON (RED)

    HMC_STATUS: ON (RED)

    Other LEDs are ON (GREEN)

    I tried using another AD9081 board and I connected the ethernet cables for the PC and Xilinx board to a HDCP router. The IP address automatically been set as below for both the PC and the Xilinx board. But again when pinging, Destination host unreachable.
