Libiio detect the FPGA but not ad936x chip

Hi,

I have pluto SDR it was working fine in all applications. After installing libiio oscilloscope on Linux Ubuntu 20 LTS the pluto stop working on all applications. I am able to log to the device terminal and run commands also the storage is working fine. I tried old firmware without success and it updated to the new firmware with same problem so I installed the latest 33 firmware but the same problem.

When I run iio_info it detect the device in usb and eathernet no problem, but it list only the FPGA model. Sometimes it list the ad936x, but only the phy not the adc or dds or lpc.

I think the problem is in the ad936x firmware, because I was testing the loopback function from the debug in the oscilloscope software. I could changed some register and broke the device. Is there any way to reset the ad936x or update its firmware, because updating the firmware for Linux fpga does not seem to help. Or if you other solutions.

    Hi,

    The AD936x "firmware" is updated when you update Pluto Firmware. You don't have to execute extra steps.

    You said that network interface with Pluto is working fine so can you please check if you log-in through SSH on Pluto if on target the IIO ADC and DDS are available when you run the "iio_info" command?

  • It looks like the damage is persistent, regardless of loading new firmware or old ones. Is there any way to hard reset the device to factory settings? For example ssh settings don't change after having new firmware. I want something stronger to make the device like new and eliminate the possibility of damaged transceiver. Because if the ad936x is damaged I will need to buy new chip or buy new pluto. 

  • I did this, but it still the same. Only detecting the phy, dds, xdc. Not detecting the ad936x adc. Also not responsive to softwares on Linux or windows. Only able to login and access some limit information like temperature in iio-oscilloscope

    Hmm - this is odd

    So initially everything worked.

    However later on when we do the interface tuning - the BBPLL doesn't lock.

    I think you pin it out. I used external USB power and I loss communication with ad936x. then I tried with only usb3 to data port (no extra power from the 5v USB) and it seem to work. later I connect both USB ports to new ports in my PC, but the problem return. so one port USB could be fine.

  • Hi Michael.

    I think you pin it out. I used external USB power and I loss communication with ad936x. then I tried with only usb3 to data port (no extra power from the 5v USB) and it seem to work. later I connect both USB ports to new ports in my PC, but the problem return. so one port USB could be fine.
