(ZCU102 + FMCOMMS3) Booting Issue : Login Prompt is not Coming

Hi all,

I created Linux Image using ADI Kernel ( 2018_R1) and Petalinux Tool. I added device-tree in my petalinux project (system-user.dtsi) and selected AD9361 drivers in the kernel configuration, then I built the project. Build Is successful and I copied the files on SD card and booted the device.

What could be missing here? Is there way of verifying the built image contains all required modules and device-tree.

Note: I disabled the MATHWORKS driver while building this Linux Image.

    Looks like you're missing a few things in the device tree. Otherwise you wouldn't get the errors and warnings.

    [ 1.471843] ad9361 spi1.0: ad9361_reset: by SPI, this may cause unpredicted behavior!

    This for example indicates that the reset GPIO is missing.

     

    In general we recommend starting without device trees.

    Not 100% sure why you don't get the login prompt - for me it looks like your ext4 partition is damaged.

    Try to re-image the SD card.

    Yes, I also observed this part, it is repeated because Petalinux Tool generated its own pl.dtsi file, where this entry is present. One more observation is that, device-tree provided by ADI is having

    Secondly, I used the boot files you shared here, in boot message I can see AD9361 is Initialized. But, at the end, prompt has not appeared may be as you stated ext4 partition issue might be present, am still working on this issue. I tried gparted application to re-image the SD card but not able to do so, I am facing "device is opened in read-only mode".

    Is there any reliable window tool which could help me in re-imaging the SD card with FAT32 and ext4 Partition, I did research but could not get good one.

    Hi,

    the resource length should not have any impact, since we only use less than 4k memory.

    The auto-generated stuff uses the size of reserved IO memory...

    Looking at your bootlog shows that all drivers successfully probed!

    Regarding writing the image -

    Use a Linux host. First unmout the SD card and then use dd to write the image. You don't need any sort of 

    partition management, since the image includes the partition table itself.

    Yes, the boot files you shared is working fine in driver probing, but the image I created using petalinux tool is having issue, it is not able to probe the driver.

    My main problem still persists How to debug this probing issue. I am trying to modify device-tree , rebuild the image and test. But No Success so far.

    I would try to see where the issue is kernel of dt.

    Use our Image with your dt and vice versa.

    Then you know where to look at.

    I used your Image with my system.dtb and same probing error came, product unsuported at FF. So, with this I think problem is in Device-Tree. I would look into this now.

    I have  a little progress in my work, Now I see AD9361 is initialized successfully, but cf-ad9361-dds-core-lpc and cf-ad9361-lpc are not probed, What I should do to check this issue? How should I add entry in the device-tree for such devices?

    The duplicated entry in DT you pointed out earlier would really make difference, am little skeptical on this,  since I tried to delete those nodes but still I see them in device-tree.

    I am sharing my work observation and need your comment, I guess am making progress but still things are not working as per expectation.

    This gives me confidence that driver is selected so next doubt is device-tree, but the device tree which is generated by Petalinux is now working with the kernel you shared here,

    In boot-log message I can see :

    AD9361 successfully initialized,

    cf-ad9361-dds-core-lpc and cf-ad9361-lpc both are mapped and probed.

    This gave me confidence that Device-Tree is okay. Now, I am not sure where to troubleshoot the issue, since my observation put me in chaos

    Kindly share some hints/suggestions which would help me to come out this debugging loop.
