(ZCU102 + FMCOMMS3) Booting Issue : Login Prompt is not Coming

Hi all,

I created Linux Image using ADI Kernel ( 2018_R1) and Petalinux Tool. I added device-tree in my petalinux project (system-user.dtsi) and selected AD9361 drivers in the kernel configuration, then I built the project. Build Is successful and I copied the files on SD card and booted the device.

After this no login prompt is coming.

What could be missing here? Is there way of verifying the built image contains all required modules and device-tree.

Note: I disabled the MATHWORKS driver while building this Linux Image.

    Looks like you're missing a few things in the device tree. Otherwise you wouldn't get the errors and warnings.

    [ 1.471843] ad9361 spi1.0: ad9361_reset: by SPI, this may cause unpredicted behavior!

    This for example indicates that the reset GPIO is missing.

     

    In general we recommend starting without device trees.

    Not 100% sure why you don't get the login prompt - for me it looks like your ext4 partition is damaged.

    Try to re-image the SD card.

    I re-built the image and somehow Now I am able to get login prompt and run Linux. But, Ad9361 is not getting probed, Still same message appear in the dmesg

    So I think device-tree issue still persists, I taken the system.dtb generated by Petalinux and Converted it into dts file, which I attached here. After going through this, I found all parameters are present but still I am not sure whether it is right device tree or still some appending need in this.

    Could you please take a look and comment what I am doing wrong here.

    I have encountered the same problem as you, our difference is: I did not change any parameters in the device number, just download the ADI 2018_R1 folder, compile with Cywin tool, directly into BOOT.BIN and image.ub Image file, when I boot the image from the SD card, and according to the xtp433 document, the voltage value of FMC_VADJ is always 1.8V, but always the following error:

    [ 1.470995] ad9361 spi1.0: ad9361_probe : enter (ad9361)
    [ 1.471881] ad9361 spi1.0: ad9361_probe : Unsupported PRODUCT_ID 0xFF

    I also tried to download the official image file from the ADI website at wiki.analog.com/.../zynqmp and get the same result.

  • Hi Victor,

    Nope, I am still working on it, it is not resolved. 

    I think with official image it should work, Please ensure that your FMCOMMS Board is Connected on FMC of Carrier Board. Make complete  set-up and boot it.
