Question
The standard IEC61010-1 is changing in Jan 2014, one of the requirments is
that the test voltage is changing from 2.5KVac to 3KVac. The Test voltage for
the device ADuM1200, ADuM3401 is OK today to Edition 2 IEC61010-1, but moving
forward to Edition 3 IEC61010-1 then we have a problem with UL
certification/approval from Jan 2014. Does Analog devices have any plans to
change the test voltage on the isolators ADuM1200, ADuM3401 to 3KVac ?
Answer
Firstly, the ADuM1200 and ADuM3401 do not currently have IEC 61010-1, 2nd Ed
certifications. There are other changes in the 3rd Ed that also will prevent us
from getting 3rd Ed certification. The main issue is a new requirement for
internal clearance and creepage distances for conductors on the same layer
which we don’t meet.
There is some good news, the IEC 61010-1 3rd Ed explicitly allows substitution
of a component-level certification. Several of our customers have successfully
used the VDE-0884 certification which applies to both the ADuM1200 and ADuM3401
parts.
