Question
I have to drive a long cable (about 2m) with the ADuM2401 output signals,
synchronuos transmission and low speed (1Kb/s); any driving problems (cable
capacitance, current, ringing,...) ? Any suggestions ?
Answer
The maximum recommended output capacitance is 15 pF (a typical 2m cable might
have a capacitance of
200 pF). The part can actually source a decent DC load, so higher capacitance
at very low data rates might be OK. However the output edge rates are
relatively fast (2-3 ns) so there would likely be reflections.
You may want to consider an interface device specifically designed to drive
cables.
