Question
What actually happens when the 350V output differential voltage is exceeded?
Why is the working voltage only 350V? This would seem to limit it's
applications somewhat.
Answer
The ADuM7234 insulation is silicon dioxide and has a lower working voltage than
our other gate drivers which use polyimide and have a higher working voltage
(560V). The ADuM7234 is rated for 1000V rms isolation for short term isolation
of transients. Voltages above 350V output differential for short term is OK,
but long term could reduce the lifetime of the isolation.
