what I would like to understand is: can I configure the MAX14914 to either continuously SOURCE current from VDD through the High Side FET to a load (a sourcing DI or DO)
- OR -
can I configure the MAX14914 to SINK current continuously through the Low Side FET to "GND"....in that way I would then have a SINKING DI or DO.

MAX14914 should not support above requirements.
- MAX14914 can be configured as a Digital Input or a High-Side (sourcing current) or Push-Pull Digital Output, but as digital input, MAX14914 only support current sink digital input.
- MAX14914 does not support Low-Side drive only. In Push-Pull output configuration, it sinks current through the low-side FET to GND when a logic “0” is commanded for DOI output and sources current through the high-side FET when a logic “1” is commanded for DOI. We can not turn off both high-side and low-side FETs at same time.
