What is the maximum PoC (Power over Coax) current for GMSL?
Actually, the maximum current is not dependent on GMSL, but on other system components. However, there are practical constraints placed on GMSL systems by their normal usage in cars.
The connectors used are normally rated at 1A, although a few are rated less and most can operate at higher currents, depending on the temperature range required. Many automotive companies are very conservative with specifications such as current to make sure customers have plenty of margin. If you go back to your cable and connector suppliers with system requirements, they will usually determine a higher current rating.
The size of inductors used for PoC is determined by their current rating, and this limits camera systems, which are the majority of PoC systems, to a few hundred milliamps.
The current drawn by PoC systems depends on the PoC voltage. So using the highest voltage practical, reduces the current.
Maxim has a Hardware Design Guide for GMSL, which offers a selection of predefined PoC circuits for different current needs. Using these circuits means a customer does not have to design their own PoC system.
