FAQ What are the benefits of using the reference clock output function?

The reference clock output enables efficient utilization of crystals or other frequency references. By utilizing the reference clock output, a single crystal can provide the frequency reference for multiple GMSL devices. In addition, the flexibility provided by the integer reference clock output divider and reference clock generator PLL enables GMSL devices to output a range of reference frequencies that can be utilized by other devices, further reducing the number of external frequency references required in a given system.  Reducing the number of frequency references in a design can reduce BOM cost. In addition, it can improve reliability by eliminating crystals, which can be a weak link in terms of system reliability
