FAQ Are there any blanking requirements from a GMSL point of view? Can we use 0 blanking? What is the blanking time that you recommend?

There are blanking requirements stated in the data sheet, and zero blanking time is not supported.

In general, CVT-RB timings are a good place to start for video timing proposals, then modified as needed. It’s nice to try to go shorter on the video timing parameters to save video bandwidth, but there are some limitations on GMSL devices mentioned above, and also limitations on SOC video generation, TCON video reception, and panel requirements (especially panels with in-cell touch).

It's an uncommon situation where CVT-RB timing cannot be supported by SOC, SerDes, and TCON/Panel. It is best to check with the whole chain (the SerDes is often not the most limiting chip when it comes to blanking). Typically even numbers for horizontal parameters are preferred, and at least 2 lines for each vertical parameter is needed for each chip in the chain to do whatever inter-frame functions (like FIFO resetting, etc) are needed.
