I have a question ADM3051.

 

Can I use the ADM 3051 as shown in the figure below?

    Hi HOD,

    The recommended configuration would be to have an ADM3051 attached to MCUA, B and C, with the CAN bus connected in between. Ideally also a minimum distance of wire would need to be between each of the nodes even if they are physically co-located (In practice short traces between the three ADM3051 outputs may work OK if there's only these four nodes and MCU D isn't at the end of a very long cable).

    There are several potential issues with the suggested circuit. These include the RXD output driving three inputs (this may be outside the capabilities of the ADM3051 depending on the current sunk by the inputs) and the propagation delay of the AND gates.

    What is the proposed data rate? While arbitration might operate as intended, CAN nodes also resynchronize based on start of frames on the bus. Due to the staggered AND gates on TXD, maybe there could be complications introduced in node synchronization for a common bit time clock. If it's a very low data rate, this may not be as much of an issue.
