I have a question for ADuM5000 DC isolation voltage.

The requirement from the customer is DC isolation voltage 3000V.

And my assumption is as follow. Is this correct?

[My assumption]:

ADuM5000 Isolation voltage is 2500V rms at 1 min.

But each ADuM5000W is proof tested by applying an insulation test voltage ≥ 3000 V rms for 1 sec(page5 on the  data sheet  ,comment 1)

The wave form of these test is bipolar AC , but the performance for DC is better than bipolar AC.

So, ADuM5000 meet isolation voltage for DC 3000V at 1sec.

VISO at max load (80mA)  is specified  >4.5V so the load regulation will be within the 4.7V to 5.4V range .

Our customer wants to calculate the min and max of  Viso_out including ripple and noise, so they have some question as below:

1. Does min and max of setpoint include output ripple and noise?

If not, they will add half of output ripple and noise to their calculation.

2. what is the relationship with setpoint, output ripple, output nosie, like below?

2. Do you have any example about how to calcultate the min and max of  Viso_out using above parameter?

I may not understand those parameter corrently, hope you can help me.

• Evan: Your diagram is correct about the relationship of output ripple and noise and the setpoint. The output ripple and noise values on your PC board needs to be in added to the setpoint value. The datasheet output ripple and noise are typical specifications, not a min and max spec.  The reason for this is output ripple and noise can vary with output load, PC board layout, the placement of bypass capacitors, the value of the bypass capacitors and the ground plane and power plane layout and spacing between the layers.
